I should have added that, if you use this technique, you cannot expect IMS
to provide any support for it or for any difficulties with VectorCAD that it
may cause. If you encounter any problems, simply remove the driver and use
the program as you bought it. If the problem you encountered goes away, it's
an indication that the driver, and not the program, was the cause of your
problems.

Folks:
If you've started playing with your new copy of VectorCAD, you've probably
noticed that it's currently written as a Windows 3.1 application. By itself,
this facts means little except that long file names are not supported. While
you can open a file with a long file name, saving it back results in the
name being truncated to the windows 8.3 format. If you're moving up from the
DOS world, this presents no problem at all. If, like me, you're moving back
from the Windows 95/98 world, you've probably set up some conventions that
use long file names (LFN's) and would like to continue.
I searched the web and found a farily decent answer - a driver that
substitutes the Windows 95/98 dialog boxes for the Windows 3.1 dialog boxes
when one is working with files. The driver is freeware. Using this driver I
found the following:
1. The dialog box would display (and VectorCAD would open) files with their
long file names
2. VectorCAD would save a file having a long file name back to the disk
without destroying the long file name
3. VectorCAD still has a problem using the SAVE-AS with LFN's. If you
attempt to use SAVE-AS and specify "Long File Name.CCD" as your drawing
name, VectorCAD will save it as "longfi~1.ccd." If, however, you then rename
"longfi~1.ccd" back to "Long File Name.CCD," VectorCAD will then work
properly with that file name.
I've uploaded this driver into the CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO files area. It's located
in the VectorCAD folder. The file name is LFNBL10.ZIP. Installation is
straight forward, either using the provided setup routine or by doing it
manually.
