RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Vacuum Table

At an industrial show last year, one company had a couple of CNC routers
running; their vacuum table just had a plain MDF top. I'm not sure what was
under it, some sort of honeycomb structure, I guess.

They were cutting thin plastic, and the air diffusing *through* the MDF was
sufficient to hold this.

In fact, for *any* part that has a smooth bottom, you will get good hold just
drawing vacuum through the MDF, and you don't have to bother masking the unused
parts of the table.

The MDF can also be treated as a sacrificial layer, allowing through cuts of the
work.


I'm currently making a vacuum table this way, using multiple layers of expanded
steel sheet to form the honeycomb.
I'll have to see how well that works for me...
