You might look at the Harris HIP 4080. It also drives external FETs,
can be used to about 56 DC volts, current limited by your FETs, has
practically
all the stuff you need on it. (You'll need to do some thinking about how
to reutilize the functions on it, but I think you can make a chopper-type
stepper driver with minimal added parts.)
