What is the tooth form (there are numerous types)?
Do the teeth use diametral, circular or module pitch system?
What's the tooth pressure angle?
Etc.

I'd suggest getting a copy of Machinery Handbook and studying the sections
pertaining to gearing, make some extar measurements of the gear (since
12P/48T simply doesn't provide enough information to fully answer your
question)and go from there.
