It works! BDI will run with new NVidia video cards with an easy to do
modification. Install BDI using generic VGA then folow the simple 4
step instructions on the web at:
people.redhat.com/jabbott/vidcards.html
Some additional hints and suggestions:
- Log in as root.
- BDI has an older SVGA driver that I was not able to get to work. I
downloaded a new one from:
ftp://updates.redhat.com/6.2/en/os/i386/
This is a later one than the instrcutions. Maybe we can get the BDI
updated so this wont be necessary.
- Before you get started copy you working VGA configuration so you
have an easy place to go back to. Do a:
cd /etc/X11
cp XF86Config XF86Config.vga
- If you run into problems and your system won't reboot so you can
read it at the Lilo prompt at startup type in:
linux 3
This stops X-windows from starting. You can then edit your new config
and try again. Worst case copy the XF86 vga back over your new
config.
- The monitor stuff (refresh rates)can be messy. The Xconfigurator
doesn't know as much about monitors as BDI's setup script. If your
good with the editors you can copy the monitor stuff from the old vga
config into your new config. I was lucky and didn't have a problem. I
just picked a similar monitor and was OK.
- Ctrl/Alt/numpad + and - flips through the various resolutions.
Good Luck!
