3D cads, While the subject is still fresh

We are now up to almost 20 3D cad programs that can create Stl or compatible
files to use with StlWork. The latest one Merlin 3D is a serious contender for the
money. The download version is about $549. So far it is the easiest interface for
me to understand and I went from start to a decent model nearly as fast as
Amorphium, and the file formats supported is astounding in this price range. It is
ACIS based and the interface is very stable. It felt more like a unix workstation
than a PC application.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone that has tried out the program
or especially anyone that has purchased it. The demo download is 16MB, but
does not allow file saves ;-( If some one has this program and can let me have a
model file to test, muchos gracias.

All the programs are listed at http://www.stlwork.com/3dcad.html This is an
unlinked page, as we are creating the content before we link it to the world.

I have a couple more Cad programs to evaluate and test before we finish. If any
one has a CAD program that is not listed on our chart, please let me know here
or by e-mail.

For those looking at the more expensive parametric programs like Solidworks
and Vellum, don't forget Inventor, Solid Edge and T-flex, all nice parametric
modelers competitively priced to SolidWorks.
