That is an important feature, and I don't know how you can hook one
up externally without wiring to internal nodes on the board.
How expensive is a timer chip, anyway! The watchdog sees that
the channel zero DAC is being updated regularly, and can cause
an E-stop, if not. External circuitry is required for that, but it only
needs digital I/O pins that are already provided.
