Thought this might be interesting for those of you close
to San Jose, CA:
Just got this forwarded to me...
The Tech Museum of Innovation is clearing its
main warehouse (lease is up 9/30), and in the
process is disposing of some older heavy-duty
industrial robot arms w/matching controllers.
These units were backups for robots on exhibits.
One unit is an Arm-Base unit, model unknown.
The other is an IBM 7xxx (sorry, forgot the
exact model number...I think it was something
like 7454 or somewhere around that) unit.
They are identical to units we gave to San Jose
State University's robotics program about 6 years
ago. Part of the same set.
Both units are as-is, condition unknown, but
probably pretty good. Both units will be
given away to first come, first served, or
they will be dumped in the trash/metal recycling
bin on 9/30.
We also have 2 other identical IBM 7xxx units,
one of which was known to be working when put
in storage. (Used for an Earth Day exhibit as
a Rube Goldberg aluminum can crusher.) We could be
convinced to give these away to a good cause. We also
have another unit in storage that was the actual
exhibit on display at the museum for the past 8
years. Working. We would love to find a good
home for that unit along with its display.
We also have about 3000 sq. feet of new and old computers,
monitors, mechanical and electronic gear, plastics
and acrylics, lumber, furniture, printers, plotters,
pipes, software, graphics, posters, frames, and assorted weird
stuff we are also giving away or dumping. Good for
projects or whatever. These are going fast.
If you are interested in these (be the only one
on the block with a full scale robot arm in your
garage!), note rulez:
1) All items as-is. (What do you expect for free?)
2) We don't know where we put the manuals in storage, and we don't
want to spend the time looking. Sorry. (But if you're
nice to us, we may remember you when we come across them,
again.) (P.S. We like chocolate.)
3) First come, first served. No holds or saves.
If you want it, grab it quick. The scrap metal recyclers
have already loading up their trucks with stuff, and will
be back every day.
4) Bring your own gorilla. Robots will fit in heavy-duty
pickup truck or van. You load; you haul. We do not have
tools.
5) Take all; no parts pulling. We're trying to get rid of these!
6) Into the trash it all goes on 9/30, if not picked up before.
(We have to vacate, and can't leave stuff behind.)
7) Contact Meleka Keith at 408-795-6146 for directions to
warehouse, and viewing/pickup times. Reference this e-mail.
Warehouse is in downtown San Jose, next to the De Anza Hotel.
Will someone please take these robots off our hands?
Thanks.
