We have one of these variable transformers where I work. I must have
had momentary brain damage because it hadn't occured to me to hook
the primary of the transformer to one of these. I really was unsure
of what approach I should take. Now I know and I should be able to
find the design voltage with no problem. The darn thing has Japanese
transistors I can't find data on. It was probably built well over ten
years ago. the zenor diod is also color coded and I have no data on
color codes for zenors as well.

It's been 22 years since I was in electronics and I find I'm having
to reeducate myself on things long forgotten.
