Dan,
I have the same Sherline machines and driver board as you.
Sharing the electronics is very practical. I just don't have
the space to have duplicates. One laptop computer serves all.
The power supply is any transformer capable of 24 to 26 VAC
and 2 to 4 Amps. I use the Triad F204U, no longer made.
Surplus houses sometimes have good transformers and Radio Shack.com
have 900-5828 (4A) or 900-5830 (2A) units. I prefer good reserve so,
would go for the 4A unit.
Be sure to use adequate heat sinking and a fan in the PS and
on the L298 drivers. One box holds everything.
The rest is a heavy duty bridge rectifier and a computer grade
high value (25,000MF or more) 50V capacitor, fuses and power switch.
CNC Pro by <http://www.yeagerautomation.com/> is excellent for
the driver program.
