Can I offer an alternative suggestion?
Besides repairing the current (possibly obsolete) unit or adding EMC by
yourself, what about considering the offerings of several of the third party
vendors and putting (or paying someone else to pu t) a new fully assembled
and tested upgrade on your machine.? I have read the comments of several on
the list about the problem, and feel that all comments are justified. The
current unit is probably obsolete and you may have problems integrating
everything on your machine into a "hobbiest" control system. The third
alternative may eliminate both of these problems.
If you choose this route, please take the time to write a specification
detailing how the new control system should perform. Simply asking that "it
replace the existing unit" is not enough to draw up a decent agreement.

| IMHO if you use this machine to make money and your time (and any
| employees) will be expended on trying to build a new controller then
| you will be far ahead to pay and have the controller fixed. Doing
| things for a hobby are fine but those are "zero" dollar hours cause
| we love to do it and if we payed ourselves a reasonable rate it would
| make the decision to mess about with CNC less attractive!
|
| If on the other hand you happen to not derive income from this
| machine than this forum is a rich source of information for making a
| computer spin the handwheels on a piece of equipment.
