Randy,
Funny this should come along today. I had a similiar problem. I am trying to
get a system into production. I was in need of a special sized chassis box
5" x 7" x 2.5". Something close was available but not deep enough at a cost
of around $13.00 each. But I did need the 2.5" depth. So I found a company
in the local area that wil fabricate the box for me including punchouts for
several DIN bulkhead connectors and holes for attaching various items. It
was necessary for me to make drawings (CAD - I use AutoCad LT) of just what
I needed including accurate dimensions. The price is around $7.00 each. I
have to order in quantity 50 however. I have an appointment with the
fabricator on Wed morning to place my order. I haver also found another shop
that will fabricate the cover plate (5" x 7") for the chassis box with all
the component cutouts (LCD, Keypad, LED and switchs) and all the fastening
holes (needed drawings as well) for approximately the same price at the same
quantity (50). I can get them hard anodized for under $100 for the batch.
(Haven't checked this out yet). Also, a tee shirt silkscreener indicated
that they would print the panel labels on for me at about $5.00 a pop.
Perhaps you can find someone who can do this sort of work for for you in
your area if you can offer them a reasonable quantity.
