Gents,
I searched this group and found one good thread for Sheldon Lathes.
Thanks Lew!
The Lathe I am considering buying is a Sheldon, variable speed lathe.
I have been told that variable speed Sheldon's are a bit rare.
It's about 13" X 36", maybe slightly larger.
It has been mechanically restored and repainted. The ways are stock
and perfect. It's being sold with an 8" 4 jaw, 6" 3 jaw, live & dead
centers, and about 20 5C collets.
Just so I do not make a gross $$$ error, I am wondering how $4000
sounds for all of this. I know the guy pretty well, he helped me
rebuild my series 1 BP mill. I would like to get a Hardinge, but they
are hard to find in this price range.
Can a Sheldon hold tolerance like a Hardinge? Any pros/cons to either
unit in terms of useage.
Thanks,
Mike
