If you design the Z axis properly using a cable it will work just fine.
The cable should be fixed at both ends to BOTH the cutting head assembly and
the counterweight, thereby forming a 360 degree loop. This would eliminate
the counterweight acceleration/deceleration problems encountered on the
other machine being discussed.
