I had an idea once that you could make a special software CAD/CAM
package that would allow you to duplicate your assembled LEGO blocks
on-screen. Then you would CNC machine each assembly with all the
connected blocks fused into one solid piece of plastic, aluminum,
whatever.

This was actually part of a broader concept of "modular
engineering". Anyway, the theory was that you could provide the
software free and people could email you their part file, credit card
number and how many they wanted. Your tooling requirements would be
limited and the process could be highly automated, in contrast to the
local machine shop. Could be a possible money machine for a home
shop CNC person.

I originally got this idea from a circuit board fab service on
the 'net called ExpressPCB.
