Eric,
I have both Solid Edge origin which is based on V7.0 and the full
version 9.0
Origin can save one model or a 2D drawing. What it can't do is save
two or more models, make an assembly or save a draft drawing once you
have generated a 3D view. Origin plus is likewise disabled as regards
models but you can save a 3D view in draft.
Even with Origins limitations to say it's free they have given away
over a $1000 program.
To answer you questions Origin can save as a STL file which can be
imported into 3D cam programs. Most are many $1,000's but a cheap one
is Millwizard. Demo available at http://www.millwizard.com
It's best to look at the web site to get a better idea of how it
works.
It's a very simple program to use.
Origin can also save as a DXF file which can be imported into other
cam packages like Bobcad, Dolphin or Vector although as these
programs can all draw as good as or if not quicker than Origin there
isn't much point.
Where Origin / Millwizard scores is a cheap and fast way to produce
surfaces as opposed to dimentionally accurate parts.
