Group,
I have a non-precison ball screw/nut assembly in need of repair.
It's in a press and is subject to heavy loading. Over the years it's
had quite a bit of use.
I removed the balls and miked them at around .151" +/-, some bigger,
some smaller (wear, I assume). Probably they were originally .156"
(5/32"). I installed new 5/32" balls purchased from my local bearing
supply house. The screw is still looser in the nut than I'd like.
Next step is to go with slightly larger balls to take up some of the
slop in the assembly. That's where my questions start. Who's a
source of slightly oversize balls? And, what's the best procedure to
determine how much oversize without buying a bunch of different sizes
and trial and error?
thanks,
Doug
