Ball screws repair questions answered...

Group,

Thanks to all that replied.

Here's some of what I found.

Oversize balls are fairly easy to get through major bearing
distributors, expensive, though!!! Rockford Ball Screw has 5/32"
nominal oversize balls in stock, 25 cents each/$25 minimum order
(compared to others this is cheap). They have .159" which is my best
guess what I need. Generally oversized balls come in tenths (.0001")
oversizes, but for my low precison, well worn screw assembly I need
much larger than nominal.

As near as I can tell from various sales people, ball screws use the
same ball size throughout the nut, not alternating big with small
spacer balls.

The procedure to determine the exact oversize needed "requires years
of experience", in other words, send the screw to us and we'll fix it
for big bucks.

thanks again,

Doug
