Ray, Jon, and Eric,
Quite a while ago I was enquiring about EMC for my machine.
I decided to use an old standby tech80 card in dos while I waited for the
bdi to evolve. I have used those cards in many purpose built machines over
the years. A friend bought the original BDI for me at NAMES. I must upgrade
of course. The original installed flawlessly in an old ACER P200.
I also wanted to wait for a STG2 driver and the PCI STG
board as well as Jon's parallel port device.
In a short time I could just see a situation where the computer
motherboard popped and I would have to do a big hunt
for an antique ISA board or have problems interterfacing
newer commodity pc hardware with an old board from
my pc graveyard.
But right now I have to hard code motions in c and I just don't
have time to write a g code parser. I shouldn't anyway...isn't
EMC's about 25000 lines? Don't need to reinvent that wheel.
Obviously I don't want to use a commercial control either.
That is a real budget buster for me.
I designed the latest machine to be easily converted from 3
axis to 5. I have read that 5 axis is as much as 10 times
more productive when doing 3-d carving... polygons converge
much more rapidly to a smooth surface than stairsteps I guess. I may have a
problem affording 5 axis cam software though.
It sounds to me like the BDI and hardware are just about there
so I am itching to do a little interface board transplant... then
get Vector or something so I can get my machine productive.
