I would say that USB is soon to be in the dustbin of history, but I'm
usually wrong about such things. The move away from legacy devices in the
computer industry is a little silly. ISA is definitly going away, but
industrial computers are just now starting to fully migrate to PCI, and ISA
is still in full force. Parallel ports are pretty darn useful, don't think
that they are going to be totally unavailable for a long time. I don't trust
USB for real time operations.
