MORE CRAZY STUFF,

Hi,
Sorry, I am not finnish reading all the digests, a just ramble away
:-)
LINUX:
------
I said a few things about it, versus Win/DOS. Here is something
more:
One of the nice thing, is that this is UNIX, and perfect for a lot
of what we want to do.
I read a bit about the Code that someone had on his machine. In
unix you have a lot of script languages, and it is so useful.
Redirecting in DOS, and pipes in DOS - is something you are familiar
with: type myfile.txt > lpt , as an example.
In unix, you have a complete other situation. You can write all
programs, without any difficult interface, group them together in a
script an build any application in a modular fashion. You could
read a DXF file > myscale.script > mycode_converter.script >
my_NC_language > my_remote_login > start_my_ machine.
Table data, what ever, you can do so much. ( I have just started to
understand a few things, but the options is endless )
One at NIST wrote a scripting language called EXPECT. I login on
remote computers, passing name, passwords, start things, - just all
you can do from a keyboard, you can do with a simple script, and
fully automate it all.
( Maybe we should open a list for just script exchange and tutor ? )
( You can make any NC part with it, and combine it with what ever
you want )
-------------------------------------------------------------
ETCHING:
I have some more crazy ideas:
( Sorry, I can find who said what in my jungle of papers )
Enamel paint, would do it - I think. You can etch brass, copper,
steel, what ever. He wondered about an EDM kind of processing.
Okay, - take a tungsten rod from a tig welder, or something else,
and make a sharp stylus. Make a non conducting pad, that rides on
the board, and have the spark tip offset at a distance. Take a
large diode, and put it on a transformer from a car battery
charger. ( You will have a half rectified DC voltage.) Wire this
to a car ignition coil, and to the tungsten stylus. The sparks will
fly, and burn trough the enamel. You could cut paper and other stuff
with it too. 20 000 - 30 000 Volt sparks, will cut trough a lot of
stuff. Maybe you could just use a hammer and smash a spark plug, -
use the core wire. ( you would like to have a capacitor on the
transformer line too, I reckon )
What about it ?
//ARNE
( I have too much to do, - so it had to be just scribble it down in
a hasty way )
