Hi, I just see I have time to send a few words while I am
downloading.
About steppers:
I had some small step motors, that could not give me enough torque.
I just mounted two of them, on each opposite sides of a shaft. And
drove them in parallel with some large transistors. You can mount
several together with a belt, and have enough torque.
That way you might use small step motors from printers or what ever
you find.
Another thing, Chris Paine came with the idea about checking for
lost steps. Well, if you have any adjusting knob, like turning up
the revs on a uncommon controller - attach a stepper motor to the
shaft, and crank it up with the EMC or what ever.
