Hi Johnno:
I'm looking over your latest post that describes a bit of what you are
trying to achieve, and I think it's a bit beyond what you can consistently
expect from a lightweight machine like an Emco 5 CNC lathe or an F1 mill.
When you talk half thousandths with such a flimsy starting point, I'm
surprised that it's working at all!!
When I went from a stepper driven Sherline to a servo driven commercial CNC,
I immediately noticed a MAJOR improvement in what I could cut easily and
accurately.
This is not to suggest that it can't be done on a homebrew rig, but if your
focus is on making accurate parts, rather than forever diddling the setup,
you will probably be pleased and relieved as I was, when you just bite the
bitter pill, and spend the bucks for a commercial rig.
Just my two cents worth.
Cheers

Marcus

otherwise I have to re zero the machine.
