almost all the programs have some sort of init file that contains the
number of steps per unit of measure, ie. steps/in or steps/mm.
If you know the number of steps/rev of the motor, and the belt
reduction 9if any) and the pitch of the leadscrew, it is a simple
calculation. If the pitch of the leadscrew is not accurate, then
there will be no accurate calibration.

(On non-leadscrew machines, the diameter of the drum pulling
tapes, cables or belts, or the number of the teeth on a pinion
gear are the factor in the calculation instead of leadscrew
pitch.)
