For what its worth, I have a box of 10 ENcoders that may be useful to your
project:

These are new, sealed, Dynamics Research Corp Encoders
Model M23B Encoder Kits & Docs
Part # T23DA4ECB00-60Z275

This is all I know about these so you will have to go to the web for more
info.

Is $100 ea reasonable? Or 3 for $270 to match your single unit price.

I went to the site, and it looks like the A2 model would be the one
to use, but $270 each! Surely there must be a less expensive way to
go??
