attention to what video card is in the system. However a basic
low-res VGA mode is probably safe. I don't believe one can use the
video bios under linux, so it has to restrict itself to config
registers that are the same on every VGA card.
This is to get around the problem with the linux window system, X,
taking many months to become stable on some newly released video
boards, and also to make it run on low-res monitors folks might
have kicking around.
