Bipolar stepper driver for unipolar steppers

I have a part CNC kit for the Taig mill comprising stepper motors and mounts.
The stepper motors are Shinano Kensi SST57D3100 6 wire motors rated for 6.7V,
1.0A . I think they were used in the older Taig CNC mills. The details on the
Shinano website show these as being used in 6 wire configuration with a 24V
constant current driver.
I have got an Oatley electronics 4/6 wire constant current driver which shows
6 wire motors being driven as 4 wire with current passing through both sides
of the coil and the center wire being disconnected ie
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

+ NC -
rather than
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

Is this likely to cause any problems such as overheating and can these be
dealt with eg by reducing the current.
Thanks
