Hello Balsa Dust,
First for the off topic question, what type of model airplanes do you fly? I
am an indoor free flight nut. Details at http://www.IndoorDuration.com
You will get lots of suggestions and most of them will be good. You can
frequently get good deals on some of the parts you are looking for on E-bay.
I have used MSC ( www.mscdirect.com ), McMaster Carr ( www.Mcmaster.com ),
Reid ( www.reidtool.com ) for a variety of the parts you are looking at.
Drives are another area that you have quite a few choices. Gecko 9
www.geckodrive.com ) has become a very popular unit on the list if you are
willing to spend a little more, but prefer to have a fully built and ready
to go unit. I am selling a close-out old revision of the Gecko G201 at a
healthy discount. Contact me off list if interested (
timg@... ). Camtronics ( http://www.seanet.com/~dmauch/ ) has a
nice 2 amp chopper bipolar drive kit also that many people on the list have
built. I am not familiar with the drives you have mentioned, but they look
to be a unipolar resistor type drive which is considered to be lower
performance than all the ones I have mentioned above.
Regarding the software there are a number of choices. I am an EMC (
www.linuxcnc.org ) fan. Master 5 has gotten good reviews, but is known to be
picky about motherboards and has a limited pulse rate. CNC Pro is another
popular choice on the list ( www.YeagerAutomation.com ). Another one I
forget all the time is Turbo CNC ( http://www.dakeng.com/turbo.htm ).
Basically try them out and see what you like.
Welcome to the list.
