Hi everybody,
I wonder if I should start another list ? I want to hear your
opinion about it. I would call it something like CAM_EMC, and try
to see if it would be possible to engage some of you in developing
a CAD/CAM package. A lot of you have some code, and I think we
should ask Fred Proctor if and how it could best be interfaced with
EMC. Maybe ask Will Shackleford too, as I think that some of the
code should use NML and other stuff. ( I think he has been doing at
lot of that part together with the RCS library from NIST.
The idea would be to build it on Varkon, and they have a mailing
list I would like to check. There might be someone who might have
some interests in this.
Here I take the liberty to include some info from Varkon:
-------------------------------------------------
Hej Arne,
The complete sources to the Varkon system will be released
as soon as possible. If you check our website you will see
that all but 3 modules are already available. The reason
for the delay is simply that we need to go through all the
code, add comments in english, tidy up, add GPL headers,
remove old obsolete debugcode etc. etc. before we hand it
over to the public.
We have a strong believe in the open source model and hope
that releasing Varkon to the public will be good for Varkon.
We are also interested in contributing to other projects if
we feel that Varkon can benefit from it. The gCAD project
is one such project. More info on gCAD is availabe on our website.
Your project sounds interesting. If you would use the Varkon
sources and add functionality that might be of interest to
others I would be glad to cooperate and include/maintain your
contributions into the standard distribution of Varkon.
Depending on how things develop of course we might also find
it interesting to change or extend basic mechanisms in Varkon
to suit your needs.
Our main responsibility however is to maintain and develop
the Varkon system as a general purpose CAD-tool.
Regards,

So, the question would be - how many programmers is there on this
list ? How many could help out. My resources is limited,
( I don't even have an income or job ) - so I have to ask.
We should also have some input from some who has been leading
program projects, and just ask how such a thing should be
organized. You do need some coordination and control. Who would be
able to do such work ?
Could we send an invitation to some University, and get some help ?
I would like to hear your comments on this, - please .
Best wishes,
