I've tried experiments with edge lighting Plexi, with poor results.
I was trying to duplicate the back-lighted instrument panels in
aircraft. What i know from poking around in them is that they take
something that looks like standard Plexiglas and paint it translucent
white, and then paint over that with black paint, masking it where they
want the legend to show. but, i was never able to get the piece
of plexi to light up anywhere near evenly. The light just went
right through and out the other end. I might know a bit more about
how to accomplish this now, as we make plexi light guides at work
for nuclear detectors.
