Jon,
If memory serves me, virtually all B-port sized factory-made CNC's
use either a 19 or 40 in-lb motor. For some reason those seem to be
the standard sizes.
Servo Dynamics sells motors very reasonably, not surplus prices by
far, though. But much less than I've found anywhere else. I believe
they're around $700 for a 40 in-lb type.
A couple times I've searched for low cost servos. Most everyone is
stuck in the $800 to $1000 price range for the 40 in-lb'ers. Even
guys with rebuilt motors. I guess they know they've got a captive
market. When your machine is down you pay the going rate just to get
back up and running.
