Hi Peter:

Well, I can no longer claim to be a slave writer. Master5 is now getting
so popular that I have to drop the "slave" designation.

Now, as to your question. I have seen the motors "step back and forth in a
couple of circumstances. 1) The motor is wired backwards on one phase. That
is to say that the motor is wired A, A~ and B~,B . This causes the polarity
to be wrong on the magnetic poles as current is reversed in the B winding.
2) the pulses being too short to trigger the step. Depending on the type
of controller, I have had users that had a too short pulse width and the
motor simply vibrated back and forth. I was forced to widen the output of
the stepper pulse to 12uS to conform to everyones machines. I haven't had a
problem with pulse width since then.
