This device is intended for interpreting step and direction from an
encoder with two offset channels in the read head. However I think
the pattern should be similar enough to that used for a 2 phase
stepper motor - so this little 8 pin chip can probably do the
conversion for you (well, you would need one per axis).
There are also many more powerful alternatives to th MAXNC
step/direction software - some of which are even free. See
www.linuxcnc.org for one example, called EMC.
