Yes
I'll agree that error recovery is an important
feature when creating Contours for machining purposes,
that is why we at Dolphin have a user definable Gap
Tolerance and also a selectable switch called
'Eliminate Discontinuities'.

These features can cover a multitude of sins
in the original geometry but they should be used
with caution, there is no substitute for getting
the geometry right in the first place. If I receive
a DXf file with Gaps or Overlaps I personally prefer
to invest the time in repairing the geometry, I do
not find it takes that long.

Yes, Smoke (and others), I know you hate it but here's one thing it does do
better than any other CAM software I've ever run.
It tolerates chain discontinuities better than anybody else.
I used to run Featuremill exclusively, and just like you're describing, I
often had to trim intersections, redraw arcs, look for duplicate entities
and all that time killing crapulous nonsense.
You can blow literally hours tuning DXF files to make them run in most CAM
systems.
Not with Mastercam; set the chain tolerance to 0.0001, blow off duplicate
entities with a command specifically for that purpose and away you go.
I've saved more time with this simple capability than with all the fancy
stuff put together.
So that's my rant, and I'm sticking to it!!
(Hint to software developers out there...get your software to do this
reliably too!!)
