EMC MDI commands in metric. Why?

So I've got my machine set up in inches. Everything is working ok,
it reads in inches and jogs in inches. When i switch to MDI it
assumes I am working in metric units. If I enter a g20 everything is
fine and it works in inches. Anyway to change the MDI default?
