this is a answer several of the questions i have received privately
concerning my last posting.

the cad_cam_edm_dro archives are plaintext archives of the messages
posted to the mailing list.

each previous mailing list hosting service had a different way to
archive the messages. it appears that yahoo.com has reformatted all
messages to their way of archiving mailing lists. yahoo.com also has
made changes that prevent the use of gnu wgets to retrieve the archive.

i am rewriting the programs and shell scripts that i use to archive
mailing lists. given the bad html formatting that mailing list archives
are subjected to there is no off-the-shelf html2text program that handles
the task properly. the perl program/script i am rewriting performs html2text
conversion rather well.

in the past the cad_cam_edm_dro archives have been uploaded to the dropbox
at metalworking.com and/or linuxcnc.org. i just checked and the cad_cam_edm_dro
archives which i uploaded in january 2001 are no longer there. perhaps someone
who has kept up with the cad_cam_edm_dro mailing list would be able to tell me
where the archives have been moved to or whether they were justed deleted.

if nothing less i will use the plaintext archives of cad_cam_edm_dro for my
own personal use.
