Jon,
I appreciate the response, but you are incorrect in this instance.
When I say smoke, I MEAN smoke! 20 minutes running time and the
extractor fan (18") behind the machine is overloaded, and that end of
the shop looks like 19th century London.
It is even worse when we run 80K ductile. And yes, I have cleaned the
tramp oil out of the coolant system (daily). 4140 is not as bad,
1018/1020 or 2xx/3xx/4xx stainless doesn't smoke at all.
Though the other metals sure do create steam!
We are running .750" coolant lines on the Okuma Howa and .500 on the
VDF's so I don't think it comes to a case off too little coolant either.

Ah well, it was worth asking about, and I do thank you for the response.
