hello;
at some point this year i will be releasing under the
gnu hardware license, gnu general public license, and gnu documentation
license a piece of hardware for use in cnc. i would like some input
as to what format certain documents should be to best help the end user.
printed circuit board:
gerber plots
postscript
tiff images
jpeg images
png images
documentation:
sgml
html
man pages
bill of materials:
specify parts with suggested vendors.
specify parts but not any vendors.
specify parts and equivalent parts but not any vendors.
software:
source code only.
source code and binaries for selected platforms.
cvs access to source code only.
given the size of this hardware project i have toyed with the
idea of making an iso-9660 cdrom image and let people download
it. any thoughts.
so i do not get swamped with numerous questions about this hardware
please read the below summary.
supported platforms:
linux on i386 and powerpc with either built-in firewire ports or pci card.
macos-x on powerpc with firewire ports.
linux distributions used for testing: debian and mandrake.
macos-x on imac and g4.
interface:
firewire
what does it do?:
you will know that when it is released.
misc:
there are absolutely no plans to support usb any version.
there are absolutely no plans to supports microsoft windows any version.
if you have any questions please e-mail me privately.
if i do not answer immediately it is not because i am ignoring you it is
because i am busy.
