The machines mentioned are not hobby class amchines, unless Bill Gates just
joined the list. Machine Shop Practice was puiblished in '79, and the pics may
be old or new from there. The machines refered to are _large_, so the price
_may_ have come down to hobby level, but I'm not holding my breath, yet.

I've been thinking about adjustment during cutting, and on further
consideration, consider it unlikely with current tech. Beyond a certain point,
it would put enormous strain upon all parts. Every time a cutter contacts
metal, there is a, "back beat", that hopefully gets absorbed by the beef of the
machine. You know those two handed, all your weight on 'em, power chisels they
use to cut blacktop? Think of trying to control one that's double or triple
size, one handed, while raising the beats per minute up a couple thousand times
normal. With relatively soft materials, it wouldn't be too much of a problem,
but for steel, well, to quote an old ad campaign, "Where's the beef?!!!?"
