Greg,

I bet you can use something like Ramsey Kits steper motor driver with
oscillator (about 30 bucks). there are several others. Check out
the "usual suspects"-- Marlin P. jones, MECI. Many of these are
basedon the 5804 chip, which will drive a stepper with some oomph,
relative to your needs.

I agree, you do not need a pc, or fancy drive here. the one thing you
may want is "idle" to reduce heating, depending on how you mount the
stepper to the focuser.

If you have some electronics capability, you could do this even less
expensively by adapting one of several circuits online using ttl
chips and tip120 transistors. But the kit driver would be my first
choice, since the oscillator to drive it is included.
