Hi Ian.

One question that hasn't been asked is are your cards ISA or PCI ?
I've been reading my HOWTOs, and came across the following snip :
5.22.1. Ether Express

Status -- Supported

This card uses the intel i82586. Earlier versions of this driver (in
v1.2 kernels) were classed as alpha-test, as it didn't work well for
most people. The driver in the v2.0 kernel seems to work much better
for those who have tried it. The comments at the top of the driver
source list some of the problems associated with these cards.

There is also some technical information available on the i82586 in
``Programming the Intel Chips'' and also in the source code for the
driver `eexpress.c'. Don't be afraid to read it. ;-)

It would seem that this is the driver you need - IF you have an ISA card.
Do not pay any attention to the ethernet address labels, it's a red herring to
confuse us.
I've just spent the last three evenings setting up another machine,
recompiling the kernel, installing Linux and the network. It was only last
night that I read the manual and set ifconfig and route properly. All I have to
do now is work out how to set the client up to run emc and Xwindows over a
network.

Regards, Paul.
