Someone else "in here" may-well answer you more eruditely than I can, but if
you have a choice between an "E-I" and a Toroidal power-transformer of the
same VA capacity, select the Toroidal immediately! Go for E-I only when you
are poor, or very cheap and can find one of the size (VA) you need for 20%
the "new price". Assuming it is made well, of course. A well-made E-I
transformer is just fine, but any at-least-as-well-made Toroidal is better!
