If I only had time...

Well, as Dan Mauch mentioned, the delay with the US Digital 500
line strips seems to be with the encoder head. You would
certainly need the right spacing of the optical sensors in the
read head, but I wonder if you could find one that's close and
mount it at an angle to change the effective spacing? What pitch
did you have made, Ken?

Linear scales for DRO

Well I went ahead and made some myself on a 2540 dpi film setter
because someone here (contrary to my thinking) thought they would
be high enough res to give me at least 0.0005. So who wants to
test them for me? Anyone got a set up that could handle a
test? I'll send the strips to you, you post the results
(no need to send um back). If they work then I can generate
them at almost any length for free (can run them in waste space
in production galleys here). They are on film and @ 1" high
and maybe 8" long.
Any takers?
