stepper drive question

Hello,
I'm about to build a Mosfet stepper drive from a kit, for later
inclusion in a home workshop CNC mill. In the beginning I wish to
drive it from a variable frequency oscillator & use a switch to give
a signal for direction. The step & direction inputs for the kit are
both optically isolated. Any help would be greatly appreciated, &
could someone give me the address for the FAQ for this group.
