John,
Gotta agree with Fred here, using a 3/32 bit I have been cutting .200 depth
in all kinds of wood at 120 IPM. I'm sure it would go a lot faster but
that's
plenty for me. For cheap bits that would work great for your purpose get
some of these circuit board drill bits at
http://tinkers-emporium.com/newpage31.htm
The picture shows a rasp like bit, but the picture of the bit in the marble
are the ones I am using. Best part is they are only about $10.00 for 50 of
them off ebay. If you break one, who cares. They are solid carbide and are
basicly
just a up spiral router bit with a small point on them. If you need a flat
bottom you can grind them flat. 1/16" gets into small corners. Here is an
auction he just had on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1702160733
Email or call him and tell him you want a package of 50. Come in 1/16
and 3/32.
Just yesterday I was about to go to home depot and get a $30.00
diamond hole saw to cut faucet holes into some floor tile that I am putting
around my bathtub. I decided to try it on my router and cut 3 1.25" holes
into the tile with one of those bits using a spray bottle filled with water
for
coolant. Cutting balsa wood it ought to last years
