I'm tried them from 12-30V with current limiting, R/L but from what
you and Tim have said it looks like they are never gonna run fast.

I'm going to return them and if I go for unipolar probably get StepSyn
103H7123-0410.

Specs for these are 3.2V, 2A, 1.6Ohm, 3.8mH per phase.

I've now found a schematic for a simple chopper driver using
L297/L298's , I now may go with Bipolar type motors, if I can remember
how to use Protel to produce the PCB :)
