I have only one thing to add Dan.

There is a Vector usr's forum with nearly 4 years of similar
questions and answers, including lots of discussions about what to do
to massage those pesky DXF files to make them useful. 3 years of the
forum is contained on the Vector 9.3 CD in hyper-linked, searchable
PDF format.
