Jon,

I don't know if not limiting the current of the motors would be
considered an OSHA-style safety violation. It's definitely a pocket-
book violation though <g>.

Yes, the extra bit of performance is an important issue. This is a
gang tooled lathe and some of the high volume, low priced parts run
in under 15 seconds so time is a big factor.

If the need was there I probably would buy from these people again.
They're a relatively small manufacturer of CNC's and retrofits.
Generally, their stuff is good, but as is typical of small
manufacturers of this type the users are the beta testers. Initially
I found all kinds of minor design problems with the machine,
everything from binding of the telescoping way covers to the axis
soft stop in the controller being set on the wrong side of the hard
stop (that was the first servo burn up, under warranty, luckily).

In comparison to the high dollar problems friends have had in the
first few years with their new Mori Seiki's, Fadals, Haas's, Okumas,
etc I should feel lucky. Production CNC'ing ain't cheap. I'd say if
you get away with under $1000/year per machine in maintenance you're
doing well.

thanks,

Doug
