Quantizers are 50 slot optical encoders using filement lights. Replace the
lights and sensors with optical couplers. Four count decoder logic and 5
pitch ball screws resolve to .001 inch.

The power is needed for the spindle motor. Once your phase converter has
the spindle motor running it will easily run the axis rapid motors. The
axis steppers are real steppers, not synchrous slo-syn motors, so you can
mill and run the axes at any angle. The circuitry is obsolete, power
consuming, and unreliable. Convert it to EMC. Unless you really want to
use slide wire resistors to make adjustments which are no longer required
with current technology. The triax drives used servos in some models so
tphe stepper and rapid motor comments may not apply.

One of the nice things about those tape-O-Matics is the j-box at the bottom
rear of the column. Everything that goes from the machine to the control
panel and the control cabinet goes through that set of easioy accessaboe
terminal strips.
