CNC and what's involved

Design and build production machinery food industry and program PIC
microprocessor to control same. Have interest in cnc for in re friend
interested in profiling carpeting. Wondered if my present work in any
way related to cnc. Assume you need an iges program if that's correct
to run these multi axis machines. Am fluent in Visual Cadd. Have my
own small machine shop. Have no interest in VB, C+ or any programming
languages.
Wouldn't want to spend months on the learning curve nor many $'s for
software.
